Places to visit 

Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures- The repository sits just 3.5 km from central Shillong and houses numerous tribal artefacts, including daily-use objects, weapons, and musical instruments, among others. 

Laitlum Canyons- Located an hour’s drive from the city centre, these cloud-covered gorges are known to offer a breathtaking view. 

Ward’s Lake- A 100-year-old lake settled 1.5 km from the city centre, Ward’s Lake is known for its eccentric wooden bridge dating back to the colonial period, and manicured flower beds and gardens along its edges. 

Shillong Peak- The highest point in Shillong, around a 40 min drive from the city centre, is known to offer a panoramic vista of the entire Shillong valley. 

Mawphlang and Khasi Heritage Village- Mawphlang is home to the famous Sacred Groves beside the Khasi Heritage Village, where visitors can explore the reconstructed traditional Khasi tribal villages. Mawphlang is an hour’s drive from Shillong City. 

Phan Nongliat (Lady Hydari) Park- Just 10 min from the city centre, Lady Hydari Park is a perfect spot to catch seasonal flora, as well as fauna, in the adjoined zoo, fish pool, and butterfly park.

Umiam Lake- Just 40 min from the Shillong city centre, the splendid Umiam Lake is a perfect spot to catch some water adventure sports activities, including kayaking, water scootering, water skiing, boating, and more.

Waterfalls of Shillong- Shillong is home to numerous magical cascades just a 30 min drive from the city centre, including Elephant Falls, Bishop Falls, Spread Eagle Falls, Sweet Falls, and Nohsngithiang Falls.
