An all-time favourite of mountain roamers, Pahalgam Valley’s picture-perfect landscape is made lush by the gurgling Lidder River. It is often deemed as Shepherd’s Valley, and it holds so many surprises under its mountainous expanse. For trekkers, there are lush meadows, high-altitude lakes, and other-worldly glaciers to scale. And for adventurers, there is white water rafting down the Lidder River and skiing on the carpets of winter snow. If you are in the mood for something laidback, you can try swooping some shots at The Lidder Valley Golf Course or visit the Cheese Factory to try local produce. For backpackers, explorers, and peace seekers, Pahalgam puts un-bothered natural wonders and a dreamy mountain lifestyle on the table.
Aru Valley: Cool, green, and silent, Aru Valley is an untouched wilderness of pure and absolute beauty. It’s only 12 km from Pahalgam. You can take a Union taxi to reach, but we recommend taking an hour-long hike for the best experience.
Chandanwari: Whether you want to take the much-appreciated Amarnath Yatra or easy access to snow in winter months, Chandanwari is a great pick. Look out for souvenir shops and local dhabas.
Betaab Valley: Named after a romantic movie made in the 80s, Betaab Valley is spread around the meandering Lidder River. The picture-perfect valley is only 15 km from Pahalgam.
Aishmuqam Shrine: Perched atop a hillock inside a cave lies the shrine of Sheikh-Zain-Udin at Aishmuqam. River Rafting: The 2 km stretch of Lidder around Aru Valley is perfect for indulging in the awesomeness of river rafting. The river flows in and around Pahalgam and the surrounding valleys with gentle rapids, making it an ideal spot for beginner rafting enthusiasts.
Trek to Sheshnaag Lake: This 5-hour-long trek takes you to a turquoise-blue Sheshnaag Lake, located in the middle of towering brown mountains. The trail is moderate and goes through many mountaintops, streams, and waterfalls.
