About
Fondly known as Little Lhasa because of the prominence of Tibetan settlements here, McLeodganj gracefully sits on the lower slopes of the Dhauladhar ranges. Besides famous cafes in every alley with a luxury of dining with a view, you can visit the many monasteries, the Dalai Lama Temple & the museum too. The same lanes lead to scenic villages of Bhagsu and Dharamkot where life is simple, serene, and fulfilling.
Mcleodganj and Dharamkot ooze with cafes that either serve thoroughly orgasmic food or great views and sometimes, even both. Spend some time exploring the towns settled among green forests and end your day with a fine meal in the market.
Backpackers can take upon multiple hikes around the area. These take you up and down hills, to hidden waterfalls, through forest trails, and even snowy paths. Yes, it snows in Dharamkot in peak winters.
There are many fulfilling treks near McLeodganj. While the Triund Trek is popular, it is also generally swarming with tourists. Treks we recommend include the Shepherd’s Trail, trek to Kareri Lake, and other camping treks.
The further up you go from Dharamshala, the prettier the places and the fewer the people get. Further up from the tourist hub of Dharamshala is Mcleodganj, popular among travellers. Further up from there is Dharamkot, which is a hub for backpackers, hikers, and trekkers.
Dharamkot is the starting point of the popular Triund Trek. However, we recommend that you go for one-day hikes around Mukteshwar if you want to ditch the crowds and explore somewhere serene.
The sunset cafe on the way to Gallu waterfall from Bhagsu Temple (Dharamkot), has a purely enchanting view of the sunset. Order chai and Maggi, play with the two furry dogs and watch the sun go down in all its glory.
